Simplicity Manifesto

Nov 17, 2010

“Be like water. It isn’t necessarily still, nor is it passive, but it flows naturally around obstacles and always gets to where it’s going.”

Leo Babauta

Focus is a new book that I’ve been reading which I’m trying to relate more to my daily life as a freelancer. The common misconception about working for yourself is that others think it’s a cakewalk setting up your own hours, but in actuality the biggest thing I struggle with is keeping a good work/life balance. It’s actually more of a common problem within our industry than most realize. I’ve found this book to be a good guide on setting up “focus rituals” that helps clear distraction and embraces simplicity. Some of it may seem like common sense mixed with a little Zen philosophy, but I think that’s the best part about it; it makes it even easier to start applying.
